Graduation from college is a monumental milestone in a person’s life, but it’s followed by what can be a difficult task in a struggling economy; trying to find an entry level job. According to a recent press release from AfterCollege, which is an online professional platform, locating that first job post diploma is effected greatly by where the graduate lives.

The company went over the entry level jobs and internships listed on their page and came up with a list of the 20 best cities to live in for those looking for after college positions. Instead of counting the number of positions posted per city, which could tilt the data in one way or another, AfterCollege looked at the number of unique employers posting jobs. This avoided one city coming out on top just because a single employer listed multiple jobs online.

The city found to be the number one area for entry level positions in the country was Chicago, IL, which was followed by Phoenix, AZ., Indianapolis, IN., New York, NY. and Atlanta GA. The number six slot was taken by Philadelphia, PA., then Denver, CO., Cincinnati, OH., Orlando, FL. and Boston, MA. The following ten slots were as follows; 11.) Tampa, FL. 12.) Charlotte, NC. 13.) Columbus, OH. 14.) San Diego, CA. 15.) Nashville, TN. 16.) Seattle, WA. 17.) Louisville, KY. 18.) Pittsburg, PA. 19.) Kansas City, MO. And 20.) San Francisco, CA.

According to the press release, the most popular positions on the list were sales jobs. Healthcare positions, entry level jobs in finance, customer service work and information technology careers were also had a large number of job listings on AfterCollege.

“The current economic climate is creating challenges for college students and recent graduates who are looking for jobs, but there are opportunities out there,” AfterCollege’s CEO Roberto Angulo said in the release. “We encourage job seekers to be diligent in their search to tap every resource at their disposal, including friends, family, faculty and classmates.”
