I've always been a little geeky when it comes to Google. I've been messing around with customized Google search engines for some time now. You might already use
the search engine to find passive candidates available on TalentBar. I have also created a general search engine to research
any topic within Human Resources and Recruiting.
I have been working on improving this general search engine. I think it is now good enough to warrant trying it out.
The TalentBar Search Engine is a custom Google search engine. That means, it returns results from all over the web, just like a usual search. However, this specialized search engine focuses on Human Resources and Recruiting related topics. It weighs certain sites more than others. Right now, it contains a special index of
627 sites related to the industry. The sites range from individual blogs to major web portals, to providers of products and services.
This search engine is available under the Tools tab at the top of every page.
Go to Tools, then "Search." BTW, the passive candidate search engine will now be under Tools, then "Cand Search."
Try running some searches, and if you find the results more relevant to your daily job, you might consider using it again or even copying it to your homepage (just follow the directions on the page.) To get a feel for the search, try entering something in the
TalentBar Search, then try it in a normal Google Search. You will get very different results! For example, if you type the word "game" into a normal Google Search, the top two results are an online games website and a Yahoo Games site. If you use the TalentBar Search, you get 1. A Search Firm for the Gaming Industry. 2. An article about a new technology from Jobvite. See how it works? Pretty neat, eh... But as I mentioned, I'm a bit geeky when it comes to Google.
Here's a picture of the example results:
