Did Harry Joiner make a fool out of me?

The Marketing Headhunter - Recruiting Animal Show
At Recruitfest, Dennis Smith promoted the idea of setting up a social network which would attract all of the people in his niche of wireless communications. Then he could be the Community Manager, a term he took from Susan Burns the day before.
I said, "Hey, David Perry's sitting right here. There was just an article about him in The Wall Street Journal that described him impersonating waiters and skulking around basements to get the names he needs.

"Is he going to bribe a janitor to get the number of somebody's private washroom and then put that guy on Ning? How dumb is that? What's more," I said, "Harry Joiner, the Marketing Headhunter, just appeared on The Recruiting Animal Show, telling us how he blocked another recruiter from accessing one of this star candidates on LinkedIn.."

Now, however Harry tells Bill Vick that he has started a LinkedIn group so that all of his best candidates can see eachother. I don't know the details but I'll bet he won't let the competition in. All the same, once the information is made even somewhat public, it's going to be leaked by some of the members. And how can that be good for Harry?

He can see that. You can tell in the video. But he shrugs his shoulders and says, "Changing is going to cause less pain that not changing." Sure, Harry. Good luck.

Listen, Jordie. Don't you dare tell me I have an impressive background. Because I don't. Call in anytime but if you want to be the featured guest you have to schedule it. Show is always Wed noon. You also have to listen to some samples to make sure that the rowdy environment is for you. Over and out. See animal speaks .com

Hey Jor, that's good material for a blog posting. Very unique at least to me. And or you could come and discuss it with me and the callers on The Recruiting Animal Show.

Animal,
I am certainly not a fake recruiter and I haven't gone by 'Jordie' since I was 5. I understand your point and do agree with it to an extent. My intent was not to disagree with you. I am in a smaller market where everyone knows everyone (Seattle). The top candidates have been identified by the top firms far before they are even considering their next career move. I would expect that my competition in the other top local firms have done as much homework as I have and developed long term relationships. I certainly am not advocating making their job easier or opening the flood gates to the less 'plugged in' recruiters, rather just not hording my information and trusting that a positive experience will lead them back to me.

Hey, Jordie, are you a real recruiter? If so, you must know that it's hard to find people. That's why some recruiters hire sourcers. If you're good enough to get the hard to find, why expose them to the pubic eye. Your competition doesn't know everyone so why lead them to them.

Now that www.wirelessjobs.com is a search firm, will they still allow outside recruiters to post their open positions? The cornering off of talent and protecting your star players goes against the concepts of social networking. Candidates gravitate towards positions, companies and recruiters who treat them the best. Hiding your candidate does not protect them from your competition. If your competition has identified them as a target candidate, they will be contacted one way or another. Recruiters are very creative people.
